I was wondering how KAtrina, which originated near the Bahamas, could have had its origin in the Sahara. I thought it was a Gulf Stream related storm. But then, I looked up currents and saw you're right!http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7b/Ocean_currents_1943.jpgIt probably didn't cross the Equator, though.
Equatorial winds pushed the storm across the Atlantic, acc to Nat Geo.
