Buying school supplies is fun - as long you're not paying the bill. Here's what you need for World Geography under Robert Trudeau:
1) The Rand McNally Quick Reference World Atlas is a requirement for geography class at CMHS. I use it almost every day because it is non pareil at developing map skills and a knowledge base. The RMQRWA costs about $6.
Where to get them?
* Barnes & Noble.
* Tower Books, next door to the Starbucks on Line Ave, at Uptown Shopping Center.
* Borders Express, Pierre Bossier Mall.
* Borders Outlet at La Boardwalk closed last week. Sorry.
* Amazon.com (Used is fine) & eBay.com.
* BooksAMillion, Bossier.
* Sometimes there are copies at Walmart and even at office supply stores.
A good idea is to Call Before You Go. Today bookstores typically stock a small number of copies and re-order when they sell out. It's one way of keeping prices low.
2) Geography class fee: $5. Pay by cash or check made to Caddo Parish Magnet HS. The fee covers a class subscription to Newsweek magazine (copies shared by all my classes and remaining in the classroom during class usage). It also defrays the cost of bus trips to Stoner Elementary for a teaching field trip and to Meadows Museum of Art for additional study.
3) Notebooks: make sure the edges of the pages are perforated. When you must hand in your work, the pages must have a clean edge. Students also need a system for keeping handouts in their notes.
4) Map pencils or some sort of pastel markers (Crayolas are fine) for adding color to graphics.
5) Scissors. I like to use scissors frequently in the hands-on activities that make class more interesting. Any size of "school scissors" will do.
Flash drive: a jump drive, or flash drive, is Not required but is highly recommended. Good students save their work on the computer by these tiny devices. I use mine all the time and have had one in use for some 4 years.
