Zartar, a Middle Eastern spice, with olive oil and pita bread, as served by Jinan Halim, Shreveport

Zartar: a spice from Lebanon, says the Food Dictionary. Find it in Middle Eastern markets. It is comprised of a blend of zaatar (a marjoramlike herb), sumac bark and chick peas or sesame seeds. Common in foods from the Middle East.

Typically eaten with olive oil on pita bread.

Jinan Halim recently introduced the snack to her geography class.
