Tragedy & Comedy: the Greeks developed the western world's form of drama


Tragedy and Comedy

Thespis: the first *actor.* A thespian!
Amphitheaters for performances.
Tragedy: life's unrelenting misfortunes.
Comedy: we laugh when people are embarassed or confused or are witty in their responses to life.


Greek drama was created as a religious rite. Plays were events that honored the gods. Today in the Passion Play and praise dance we see that Chrstians, too, appreciate drama in worship.
